Infrastructure Alert: I-40 Bridge Repairs and Lane Closures

Nashville residents and commuters should prepare for significant travel disruptions starting this evening. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced that bridge repair operations will necessitate multiple eastbound lane closures on Interstate 40 in Davidson County. These operations are scheduled to begin Friday, February 27, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. and will continue through Monday, March 2, at 5:00 a.m.

  • A full ramp closure will be in effect at Exit 221A.
  • Signage and detours will be placed throughout the work zone to guide motorists.
  • Drivers are urged to allow for additional travel time or seek alternate routes, as all work is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Emergency Management: Winter Storm Fern Recovery Efforts

Metro Nashville officials continue to manage long-term recovery following the impact of Winter Storm Fern. Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency remains active to facilitate restoration and help mitigate the financial burden on residents. The East Bank Development Authority recently noted that recovery funds are being prioritized for those impacted by the severe ice and sleet events from late January. Residents are encouraged to check the official city portal for information on available resources, utility infrastructure repairs, and community support programs.

Public Health Advisory: Respiratory Illness Season Update

The Metro Public Health Department reports that respiratory illnesses remain highly active across the region. Local health data for late February 2026 indicates elevated levels of Influenza A, COVID-19, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Health officials are issuing the following guidance for the community:

  • Testing is strongly recommended for individuals experiencing sudden onset of fever, cough, sore throat, or body aches.
  • Early testing is critical for high-risk patients to access appropriate treatment plans and prevent complications.
  • Community spread remains high in schools and workplaces throughout Davidson County.

Director Kathy Stickel officially retires today, February 27, 2026, following three decades of public service. Tabitha Furlong will assume the role of Director effective February 28. In development news, the East Bank Development Authority has approved a 15-year tax incentive for the Eastpoint Flats project, which will provide over 300 affordable housing units.
