Morning Commute Overview

Commuters in Nashville should prepare for a challenging start to the week this Monday, March 2, 2026. A combination of overnight weather conditions and scheduled roadwork is expected to slow traffic across several major arteries. Early reports indicate that freezing rain moving through the region overnight has left some surfaces slick; drivers are urged to use extreme caution, particularly on overpasses and bridges where ice may linger during the early morning hours.

Interstate Alerts: I-40 and I-65

Significant activity is reported on Interstate 40 and Interstate 65 today. On I-40 Westbound, crews are conducting essential roadway repairs between mile markers 34 and 35. Intermittent lane closures are expected in this area from 4:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m., which may cause backup for those traveling toward the city center.

On I-65, multiple maintenance projects are underway. Starting at 9:00 a.m., a mobile work zone will be active for bridge inspections between mile markers 104 and 120, resulting in single-lane closures in both directions. Additionally, motorists should watch for multiple lane closures between log miles 0 and 13 in Davidson County for widespread pothole patching operations. These closures are scheduled to last until 3:00 p.m.

I-24 and Regional Roadwork

Traffic on Interstate 24 will see minor disruptions due to crossing equipment near mile marker 5.9. These multiple lane closures will occur in both directions from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In the Madison area, the long-term widening project on I-65 between Rivergate Parkway and US 31W continues to impact traffic flow, with crews working on bridge construction and utility relocation.

WeGo Public Transit Detours

Public transit riders should be aware of several active detours today. WeGo Public Transit has confirmed that the following routes are operating on modified paths:

  • Route 75 (Midtown): A northbound detour is in effect through March 4 due to construction on Chestnut Street.
  • Route 50 (Charlotte Pike): Detours remain in place for both inbound and outbound trips near the downtown core.
  • Route 17 (12th Avenue South) and Route 88 (Dickson): Ongoing detours are active near James Robertson Parkway.
  • Route 86 (Smyrna/La Vergne): Detours are in effect for trips to and from Nashville.

Safety Reminder

TDOT reminds all motorists to obey the "Move Over" law when approaching utility or maintenance vehicles. With multiple work zones active today, slowing down and providing space for crews is essential for the safety of both workers and drivers. If you encounter potholes or hazardous road conditions, you can report them directly to the TDOTFIX hotline.
