Bridge Repairs and Major Evening Events to Impact Downtown Commute

Traffic and Commute Update: Friday, February 27, 2026
Nashville commuters should prepare for a busy Friday as a combination of major infrastructure projects and a packed evening event schedule is expected to impact travel times across the midstate. While the regional highway system remains largely open, localized projects and significant pedestrian crowds in the urban core will require extra travel time for those heading home or out for the evening.
Major Roadworks and Infrastructure Alerts
Several high-profile repair projects are currently active, affecting bridge crossings and major corridors:
- Woodland Street Bridge: Phase 2 of the scheduled repair project is ongoing. Motorists are advised to watch for narrowed lanes and construction crews near the bridge throughout the day.
- John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge: Repair work that began earlier this week continues. Intermittent partial closures are expected over the next 90 days. While the north sidewalk remains open for pedestrians, those on bicycles should be prepared to dismount and walk through the work zone.
- Nolensville Pike (US 31A): As part of the ongoing widening project, Bradford Hills Drive remains under a continuous closure until April. Additionally, temporary lane closures for utility relocation are scheduled between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM along various segments of the pike.
- Downtown Tunneling: Following the recent state approval for The Boring Company’s "Music City Loop," preliminary construction activities may begin near state right-of-ways downtown. While no major surface disruptions are expected today, expect a long-term presence of crews near 8th Avenue South and Rosa L. Parks Boulevard.
Public Transport and WeGo Transit Detours
WeGo Public Transit is operating under its Winter 2026 service schedule, which features increased frequency on key corridors like Route 3 (West End) and Route 7 (Hillsboro). However, several active detours remain in effect today:
- Routes 3, 7, and 8: These routes are currently detouring from downtown via John Lewis Way and James Robertson Parkway. Stops located between WeGo Central and 8th Avenue South & Broadway will not be served while these detours are active.
- Route 95 (Spring Hill/Franklin): A long-term detour remains in place. Buses are using Wedgewood Avenue between 21st Avenue South and I-65, bypassing the usual service on 21st Avenue in that segment.
Evening Event Impacts
Heavy congestion is anticipated in the downtown and West End areas starting at 6:00 PM due to multiple high-attendance events:
- The Ryman and Downtown: Aaron Lewis & The Stateliners perform at 8:00 PM, which will likely cause gridlock on 4th and 5th Avenues.
- TPAC: The Nashville Ballet’s performance of Swan Lake at 7:30 PM will increase vehicle volume near the Andrew Jackson Hall.
- Adventure Science Center: The "Science of Beer" festival (6:30 PM – 10:00 PM) will result in heavy traffic on Fort Negley Boulevard.
- The Fairgrounds: The Nashville Flea Market opens its "Romance in the Air" market today at 8:00 AM, potentially slowing traffic on Wedgewood Avenue throughout the afternoon.
