Blasting Operations and Nightly Closures to Impact I-65 and I-40 Commuters Today

Significant Midday Delays on I-65
Nashville commuters and travelers heading north should prepare for rolling roadblocks on Interstate 65 today, Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is beginning a new phase of blasting operations for the Phase 3 Widening and Improvements Project. These operations are scheduled to take place between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. near mile markers 96 to 99, affecting both northbound and southbound lanes. Motorists should expect traffic to be halted briefly during these windows and are encouraged to plan for at least 15 to 20 minutes of additional travel time if passing through the Davidson and Sumner County line during the midday hours.
Major Overnight Closures on I-65 Southbound
Heavy impacts are expected for late-night and early-morning drivers on the north side of the city. Starting tonight at 8:00 p.m., there will be a full closure of I-65 Southbound at Exit 98. This closure is necessary for a scheduled bridge concrete pour and is expected to remain in effect until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Additionally, streetlight conversion work will continue between mile markers 87.6 and 88.2, resulting in single-lane closures in both directions during the same overnight window. Drivers heading toward downtown from Goodlettsville or Millersville should utilize US-31W (SR 41) as an alternate route.
I-40 Bridge Repairs and Local Arteries
On Interstate 40, bridge repair work continues at mile marker 217 near the Elm Hill Pike area. Commuters can expect multiple lane closures in both directions from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Surface street traffic is also seeing disruptions, as SR 174 (Long Hollow Pike) will have single lane closures between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for ongoing bridge construction. Furthermore, Bradford Hills Drive remains under a continuous long-term closure with detours in place through April.
Public Transit and Regional Alerts
WeGo Public Transit passengers should be aware of an active detour for Route 3 (West End). Due to ongoing construction, the outbound route from downtown is currently detouring via John Lewis Way and James Robertson Parkway. Several stops between Central 5th Ave and the North Gulch Station are being bypassed. On a positive note, WeGo continues to operate under its expanded Winter 2026 schedule, offering increased frequency on high-volume routes like Nolensville Pike and Hillsboro Road.
Finally, for those traveling toward Murfreesboro, the TSSAA High School Basketball Tournaments begin today at Middle Tennessee State University. Expect heavy congestion on Rutherford Boulevard and East Main Street, as several campus parking lots, including the Greenland Drive Lot, are restricted to tournament ticket holders only.
