Public Notice: Nashville’s Winter Storm Review and City Council Caucus Updates

Official City Notices for February 23, 2026

This Monday, Nashville city officials are convening for several critical public meetings and health updates. From the review of our winter storm readiness to various community-focused boards, here is the official roundup of municipal activity and public service announcements for our residents.

Inaugural Winter Storm Response Commission Meeting

The newly formed 2026 Winter Storm Response Commission will hold its first official meeting today, Monday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m. The session is scheduled at the Sonny West Conference Center within the Howard Office Building, located at 700 President Ronald Reagan Way.

Following the significant impacts of the recent ice storm, referred to as Winter Storm Fern, Mayor Freddie O’Connell established this commission to evaluate the city’s emergency performance. Chaired by former Governor Phil Bredesen, the nine-member body is charged with investigating responses from both Metro government and Nashville Electric Service (NES). The commission will look at what went right and where infrastructure needs shoring up to ensure Nashville is better prepared for future weather events. Residents should note that the commission holds investigative powers to compel records and witness attendance as part of its comprehensive review.

Metropolitan Council Women’s Caucus

The Metropolitan Council Women’s Caucus is scheduled to meet this evening from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Historic Metro Courthouse in Council Committee Room 2. Led by Councilmember Joy Styles, the caucus provides a forum for legislative discussion focused on issues specifically impacting women across Davidson County. Public attendance is welcome for those interested in observing the committee’s current priorities and upcoming initiatives for the spring legislative session.

Nashville Community Review Board Session

The Nashville Community Review Board will convene for a regularly scheduled meeting tonight from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This meeting will take place at the Howard Office Building in the Sonny West Conference Center. The board serves as an independent body to review police conduct and process community complaints and commendations. Today's agenda includes informational reports on police department policies and ongoing advisory updates.

Health Advisory: Seasonal Respiratory Surge

Metro health officials and local providers have issued an advisory regarding an intense surge in respiratory illnesses. Local health data for late February 2026 indicates elevated activity for Influenza A, COVID-19, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) throughout the region. The Health Department recommends that residents experiencing symptoms such as fever, persistent cough, or body aches seek testing immediately. Increased community spread has been documented in local schools and workplaces, prompting a reminder for all residents to maintain hygiene protocols and stay home if they feel unwell to prevent further transmission.

Today’s Board Calendars

  • Health and Educational Facilities Board: Meeting today at 11:00 a.m. at the Historic Metro Courthouse to conduct regularly scheduled business.
  • Applied Behavior Analyst Licensing Committee: A state-level licensing meeting is also slated for today for professionals in the behavioral health sector.
  • Cumberland River Compact: Applications remain open for the "Adopt-a-Stream" program to help maintain local water quality following recent storm runoff.
