Friday Commute: Pothole Repairs and Evening Lane Closures

Nashville drivers should prepare for a mix of lingering road repair work and specific evening lane closures this Friday, February 6, 2026. Following the recent prolonged winter weather event that brought ice and freezing temperatures to Middle Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has launched a massive pothole repair blitz across the region's interstates and state routes. Crews are expected to be active throughout the day, so motorists should stay alert for slow-moving maintenance vehicles.

Major Arteries and Roadworks

  • I-65 Widening (Davidson & Sumner Counties): Widening and improvement activities continue nightly from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. between Mile Marker 95 and 99. Expect lane closures in both directions, though at least one lane will remain open. Intermittent ramp closures may also occur at Long Hollow Pike, Rivergate Parkway, and US-31W (SR 41).
  • I-24 Rutherford County: Final striping and grinding of new concrete ramps near Exit 81 will cause alternating westbound lane closures from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The Exit 81 off-ramp is scheduled for periodic closures during these hours to allow for concrete curing and grinding.
  • Long Hollow Pike (SR 174): Daily lane closures for bridge work are scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in both directions, which may affect midday traffic flow and local access near the Davidson-Sumner line.

Evening Hazards and Cleanup

Commuters heading out late on Friday evening should be aware of specific cleanup operations that will restrict traffic flow on major travel corridors:

  • I-24 Eastbound (MM 115.5): A hazmat cleanup is scheduled from 9:00 p.m. until approximately 12:30 a.m. The fast lane (number one lane) will be closed, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
  • I-40 Westbound (MM 69): In the western corridor, crews will close the outside lane starting at 8:30 p.m. for cleanup following a previous accident. This work is expected to continue until 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

WeGo Public Transit Alerts

Public transit users should note that the detour for Route 76 Madison remains in effect until 11:00 p.m. tonight. The Route 76 Loop is currently detouring via Lanier Drive and Neelys Bend Road. Stops between East Old Hickory Blvd & 4th Ave and Neelys Bend Rd & Howse Ave will not be served while this detour is active. Additionally, all passengers are reminded that the Winter 2026 service changes are now in full effect, offering expanded Sunday hours and increased frequency on high-demand routes like the 3 West End and 52 Nolensville Pike.

With temperatures remaining low, TDOT continues to monitor for black ice on overpasses and bridges. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution, move over for emergency vehicles, and check real-time camera feeds before starting their evening commute.
