Vehicle used to breach storefront on Old Harding Pike

Metro Nashville Police were investigating a burglary early Tuesday after a vehicle struck the front of a gun store in the Belle Meade area, damaging the brick façade and a window and triggering a large police response in the pre-dawn hours.

Officers were dispatched to The Outpost Armory on Old Harding Pike shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday when an alarm was activated. Police found a vehicle that had backed into the business, creating an opening that allowed entry into the store. Detectives remained on scene as the incident was processed and the area was secured.

What police say was taken and how suspects fled

By Tuesday afternoon, police reported that six AR-15-style rifles were stolen during the break-in. Investigators said at least two suspects were captured on surveillance footage taking rifles before leaving the scene.

Police reported the burglars abandoned the vehicle used in the crash and then entered a separate getaway vehicle driven by another person. No arrests were announced Tuesday, and the search for the suspects continued.

  • Location: The Outpost Armory, Old Harding Pike, Nashville

  • Time of initial response: Just after 3 a.m. Tuesday

  • Reported loss: Six rifles

  • Investigation status: Ongoing; suspects not publicly identified

Context: smash-and-grab tactics and the challenge of recovery

Using vehicles to force entry has been a recurring method in gun-store burglaries nationally and regionally, in part because it can defeat doors and gates quickly and reduce the time suspects spend inside. The rapid sequence described by police in this case—breach, entry, theft, and immediate flight—fits that pattern.

Law-enforcement investigations into stolen firearms often hinge on serial numbers, surveillance footage, and tips from the public. Recoveries can occur through traffic stops, unrelated arrests, or when stolen guns surface in later crimes, but timelines vary and are frequently uncertain.

Police asked anyone with information about the burglary to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.

What happens next

Detectives were expected to continue reviewing surveillance video, tracking the vehicles involved, and interviewing potential witnesses in the area. Police had not released descriptions of the suspects beyond confirming multiple individuals were involved, and no additional details were announced about potential injuries or whether anyone was inside the store at the time of the burglary.

This story will be updated as police release additional confirmed information, including suspect descriptions, charges, or any recovery of stolen firearms.
