Severe Winter Storm Warning and Emergency Declaration

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Winter Storm Warning for Davidson County, effective through 6:00 p.m. CST today, Sunday, January 25, 2026. Residents should prepare for heavy mixed precipitation, including significant icing and total snow accumulations of several inches. Travel is strongly discouraged as road conditions are expected to be hazardous or impossible in many areas. Additionally, a State of Emergency remains in effect for all 95 Tennessee counties as issued by Governor Bill Lee. Starting at midnight tonight, a Cold Weather Advisory will take effect, with wind chills projected to drop between 0 and 10 degrees below zero through Tuesday morning. Citizens are urged to stay indoors and limit exposure to the extreme cold.

Emergency Shelter and Cold Weather Outreach

In response to the life-threatening temperatures, the Metro Emergency Overflow Shelter is currently operating 24 hours a day through Sunday, January 25. The shelter will remain open as long as temperatures remain at or below 32 degrees for three consecutive hours. Metro Social Services has also activated its Severe Weather Response, which includes the following services:

  • Emergency meal delivery for homebound seniors and residents with disabilities.
  • Increased wellness checks and cold patrols to connect unhoused individuals with warming resources.
  • Activation of the Crisis Cleanup Hotline for residents requiring free property assistance related to storm damage.

City Facility Closures and Service Disruptions

Due to the forecasted weather conditions and public safety concerns, several Metropolitan Government services have adjusted their schedules:

  • Metro Parks: All Metro Parks facilities, community centers, and offices are closed today, Sunday, January 25. A decision regarding a potential closure extension for Monday will be made later this evening.
  • Nashville Public Library: All library locations are closed today. Patrons are encouraged to use online digital resources.
  • Courts and Clerk Offices: The Circuit Court Clerk’s offices, General Sessions Courts, and State Criminal Trial Courts will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. This includes the Traffic Violations Bureau and the Probate Court. Night Court operations will remain functional for emergency matters.

Upcoming Council and Community Meetings

While most offices are closed today, the following official meetings are currently scheduled for Monday, January 26, barring further weather-related cancellations:

  • Minority Caucus: The Metropolitan Council Minority Caucus is scheduled to meet at 6:00 p.m. at Nashville Korean BBQ and Hot Pot.
  • District 2 Community Meeting: Council Member Kyonzté Toombs will host the monthly community meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the North Precinct community room. A remote viewing option via Zoom is available for those unable to travel.
