Official Notice: Winter Storm Fern Recovery and Municipal Meeting Roundup

Winter Storm Fern Recovery and Disaster Assistance
Following the significant impact of Winter Storm Fern, Metro Nashville remains in a state of recovery. Mayor Freddie O’Connell has launched the “Restore Nashville” campaign to provide relief to residents affected by the prolonged outages and hazardous conditions. As part of this effort, a proposal is currently before the Metro Council to suspend all penalties, late fees, and service turn-offs for water bills through the month of February. Additionally, a federal disaster declaration has been approved for Davidson County, unlocking FEMA funds for infrastructure repairs and cleanup efforts.
Debris Removal and Curb Guidelines
The Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) and Metro Water Services are coordinating a massive debris removal operation. Residents are instructed to move storm-related debris, including fallen branches and vegetation, to the public right-of-way at the curb. To ensure efficient pickup, debris should not be placed in bags or near utility poles, fire hydrants, or mailboxes. Residents are also encouraged to report any remaining water main breaks or localized flooding to hubNashville. Volunteers through partner organizations like Hands On Nashville are currently being deployed for neighborhood canvassing and assistance for vulnerable residents who cannot safely clear debris themselves.
Special Called Council Committee Meetings
On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., the Metropolitan Council will hold a special called joint meeting of the Public Health and Safety Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. This meeting, held at the Historic Metro Courthouse, is designated to review communication protocols during recent natural disasters and identify necessary improvements for future emergency responses. Members of the public can view the proceedings live via the Metro Nashville Network.
