Transportation and Traffic Alerts

The Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) have issued several advisories for commuters on Wednesday, February 18. Ongoing maintenance and infrastructure repairs are expected to impact traffic flow across Davidson County throughout the day and evening.

  • I-40 Bridge Repairs: Nightly lane closures continue on I-40 in Davidson County at mile marker 217. These closures are scheduled from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for essential bridge repair work. Motorists are advised to expect significant delays and consider alternate routes during late-night and early-morning travel.
  • I-24 Lane Closures: Single eastbound lane closures are in effect for coring and testing between mile markers 15.9 and 24. While primary testing occurred overnight, residual impacts and equipment movement may be felt during early morning hours.
  • SR 76 and Local Routes: Single lane closures are scheduled on SR 76 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for aerial fiber installation. Additionally, nightly work on I-65 between mile markers 95 and 99 continues to restrict traffic to one lane in each direction to facilitate ongoing construction.

Public Commission and Board Meetings

Several local boards and commissions are holding public sessions today to discuss city governance, property assessments, and cultural initiatives. All residents are invited to attend or follow the proceedings via the Metro Nashville Network.

  • Nashville Entertainment Commission: The commission will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the West Police Precinct located at 5500 Charlotte Pike. The agenda includes updates on local filming permits and strategic support for the city's creative economy.
  • Equalization Board: Property owners and interested citizens can attend the Equalization Board meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the Howard Office Building. The board will review property assessment appeals and conduct regularly scheduled tax-related adjustments.
  • Metro Arts Commission: A regularly scheduled meeting will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The commission is set to review upcoming public art projects and funding allocations for local non-profit arts organizations.
  • Tennessee Inmate Disciplinary Oversight Board: This state-level public meeting is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Tower in downtown Nashville to review institutional disciplinary credits.

Community Health and Safety Advisory

The Metro Public Health Department and local health providers are monitoring a significant increase in respiratory illnesses across Middle Tennessee. As of February 18, Nashville is experiencing a robust winter flu season, specifically driven by Influenza A strains.

Health officials recommend that individuals experiencing fever, cough, or body aches seek testing, as symptoms for the flu often overlap with COVID-19 and RSV. Residents are encouraged to practice frequent handwashing, utilize updated vaccinations, and stay home if they feel unwell to limit community spread in schools and workplaces.

Parks and Infrastructure Projects

Metro Parks and Recreation continues work on several capital improvement projects. Public access may be limited in specific areas of the following parks to ensure safety during construction:

  • Centennial Park: Construction remains active on the West Trail and the 440 Greenway Extension. This project aims to improve pedestrian and cyclist connectivity in the West End area.
  • Cleveland Park: Modernization of the pickleball and basketball courts is ongoing. Residents should follow posted signage regarding restricted areas.
  • Athletic Facility Upgrades: Artificial turf replacement projects are currently active at Hunters Lane High School and Cane Ridge High School as part of the Metro Nashville Public Schools improvement plan.
