Downtown flagship building returns to regular hours following June 2025 parking garage fire

Nashville Public Library’s Main Library at 615 Church Street is scheduled to reopen to the public on Monday, March 30, restoring in-person access to the system’s flagship downtown location after an extended closure tied to a fire in the adjacent parking garage.

The library building has remained closed since the June 10, 2025 incident, when a fire broke out in the connected parking structure in downtown Nashville. Fire officials reported explosions were heard and evacuations occurred nearby, but no injuries were reported. The blaze was associated with significant damage within the garage itself, including structural compromise.

While the fire was contained to the garage, the library’s reopening has depended on independent safety verification and building inspections, along with work to address smoke and soot impacts and confirm the integrity of life-safety systems. The reopening date had previously been described as tentative pending final approvals; the current plan sets a firm reopening on March 30 with normal weekday hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What to expect when doors reopen

The Main Library is a five-level facility of roughly 300,000 square feet and includes public computers, Wi‑Fi, printing services, meeting rooms, research and special collections spaces, and program venues that support a wide range of community use. Its return is expected to reestablish a central hub for circulation, research, and downtown programming.

  • Reopening date: Monday, March 30
  • Planned hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays
  • Address: 615 Church Street, Nashville

Parking and access considerations

The adjacent parking garage has remained closed, and library visitors should plan for alternative transportation and parking arrangements. The library site has continued to list the garage as closed until further notice, indicating that reopening the library and restoring garage operations are proceeding on different timelines.

Systemwide service continuity during closure

During the closure, library service continued through the broader Nashville Public Library network across Davidson County. Earlier updates directed patrons with holds routed to the Main Library to retrieve items at another branch and encouraged customers to use other locations for checkout and returns. The March 30 reopening is expected to reduce those routing workarounds for downtown users and help normalize delivery and access for services historically anchored at the Main Library.

The reopening follows months of restoration work and multiple layers of safety review after the June 2025 garage fire disrupted downtown library operations.
