Residential Waste Services: New Collection Schedule in Effect

As of February 6, 2026, the Nashville Department of Waste Services has completed its first week under the newly optimized residential collection schedule. This transition, which officially began on February 2, represents the first major overhaul of the city’s collection routes in over a decade. All residential trash and recycling services have shifted to a four-day, Tuesday-through-Friday service model.

Residents are advised of the following critical changes:

  • Friday Service: Residents assigned to the new Friday route must have their carts at the curb or in the alley by 6:00 a.m. today.
  • Holiday Adjustments: Under the new system, when a Metro holiday falls between Tuesday and Friday, those collections will move to the Monday of that same week.
  • Placement Guidelines: Ensure carts have at least four feet of clearance from obstacles like mailboxes or utility poles to accommodate new onboard routing technology.

Public Safety: Storm Review Commission and Council Hearings

Following the significant impacts of Winter Storm Fern, Mayor Freddie O’Connell has issued Executive Order 58, officially establishing a Storm Review Commission. This nine-member body is tasked with investigating the city’s emergency response and utility coordination during recent weather events. Residents should take note of an upcoming special-called joint meeting of the Public Health and Safety and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committees.

  • Meeting Date: Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
  • Location: David Scobey Council Chamber, Historic Metro Courthouse.
  • Purpose: To review interdepartmental communication protocols and identify improvements for future natural disasters.

Public Health Advisory: Winter Safety and Carbon Monoxide

The Metro Public Health Department continues to urge caution as residents recover from recent power outages. Health officials have confirmed multiple fatalities across the state linked to improper generator use. Residents are reminded to never operate a generator inside a home, garage, or near open windows. Generators must remain at least 20 feet away from any structure to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Infrastructure and Roadway Alerts

The Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) and TDOT have several active projects affecting Friday commutes:

  • Nolensville Pike Widening: Bradford Hills Drive remains closed at Nolensville Road as part of the ongoing bridge and retaining wall construction. This closure is expected to continue through April.
  • Titans Stadium Construction: Victory Avenue and South 2nd Street remain closed between South 1st Street and Korean Veterans Boulevard to facilitate ongoing stadium development.
  • I-65 Improvements: Nightly lane closures continue between mile markers 95 and 99 for widening activities. Motorists should expect delays between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
