Nashville murder case advances as suspect arrested in Miami for 2024 Midtown recording-studio shooting

Arrest in Florida follows a long-running multi-suspect Nashville homicide investigation
A man sought in connection with a 2024 fatal shooting outside a Midtown Nashville recording studio has been arrested in Miami, a development that moves a high-profile homicide case closer to the courtroom after a months-long, multi-state search.
The case stems from an early-morning shooting on April 20, 2024, in an alleyway between Hayes Street and Church Street in the Midtown area. The victim, 32-year-old Christopher Cheeks of California, was found and transported to a hospital, where he died. A second man, 29, was also shot and survived after receiving hospital treatment.
What investigators say happened on Hayes Street
Detectives have described the encounter as beginning with interaction between two groups before turning into an attempted robbery. Investigators say three suspects approached Cheeks and his friends, and that an attempted robbery culminated in gunfire. The surviving victim reported that the groups had spent time together before the robbery attempt, then scattered as shots were fired.
The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. in a Midtown alley adjacent to music-related businesses and a nearby hotel garage.
Multiple suspects, multiple jurisdictions
The investigation has involved several arrests in different locations. One defendant, Amir Carroll, was arrested in Nashville in February 2025 following a grand jury indictment that included first-degree murder and robbery-related charges tied to the Hayes Street shooting. A second defendant, Adrian Cameron Jr., was arrested in Los Angeles in May 2025 and has faced first-degree murder allegations connected to the same incident.
Authorities have said the newly arrested suspect was also indicted on charges that include first-degree murder, robbery and weapons offenses. The arrest in Miami places the case into an interstate extradition posture, in which Florida authorities hold the defendant while Nashville prosecutors and courts seek a return to Davidson County for arraignment and pretrial proceedings.
What comes next
- Extradition process: The defendant is expected to face initial proceedings in Florida before transfer to Tennessee.
- Davidson County court timeline: Once returned, the case typically proceeds through booking, arraignment, bond considerations and hearings tied to the grand jury indictment.
- Evidence and charging posture: The indictment and existing arrests indicate prosecutors are treating the shooting as robbery-related and involving multiple participants.
The investigation remains centered on the events of April 20, 2024, and on how responsibility is assigned among the defendants under Tennessee law for actions taken during the attempted robbery and subsequent gunfire.
