Man wounded in Saturday afternoon shooting outside Antioch apartments on Hickory Highlands Drive, police say

Shooting reported between apartment buildings; victim taken to hospital

A 23-year-old man was wounded in a shooting Saturday afternoon in Antioch, and Metro Nashville Police Department detectives are investigating, authorities said.

Dispatch records show the call came in shortly after 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, from the 1700 block of Hickory Highlands Drive. Police said the shooting occurred outside, between apartment units. The man was transported to a hospital for treatment.

What police say happened — and what remains unknown

Investigators have released few details publicly while the case remains active. Police have not announced any arrests, identified a suspect, or described a possible motive. The man’s condition had not been publicly characterized beyond the fact he was taken for medical care.

On Monday, Feb. 23, police released additional information indicating the victim, described as a Smyrna resident, was shot in the back and leg while leaving an apartment on Hickory Highlands Drive. The victim told investigators that four men fired at him before leaving the area in a dark-colored pickup truck. Police said the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Conflicting early injury details

Early information released during fast-moving investigations can change as detectives interview witnesses and medical teams confirm injuries. In this case, authorities initially described a gunshot wound to the abdomen, while later information characterized the injuries as wounds to the back and leg. Police have not publicly explained the discrepancy.

How this fits into recent Antioch-area gun violence investigations

The Hickory Hollow and broader Antioch area has seen repeated police responses to shootings in and around multifamily housing complexes in recent months and years. In one widely reported 2025 case, a shooting at a nearby apartment complex parking lot killed one man and injured another. In another 2025 incident, police investigated a separate shooting at an Antioch complex following an argument.

The investigation into the Feb. 21 shooting remained open as of Feb. 23, with detectives still working to determine the circumstances leading up to the gunfire.

Anyone with information that could help identify those involved is encouraged to contact Metro Nashville Police or submit tips through Crime Stoppers.
