Major Nighttime Closures Scheduled for I-65 and US-31W; Daytime Pothole Repairs on I-24

Nashville Traffic and Commute Update: Thursday, February 12, 2026
Commuters in the Nashville area should prepare for a mix of significant nighttime closures and localized daytime delays today. As the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) continues its Phase 3 widening and improvement project, several key arteries will see impacts starting this evening. Additionally, maintenance crews are active across the region to address road surface issues following recent winter weather.
Major Nighttime Closures: I-65 and US-31W
Starting tonight, Thursday, February 12, at 8:00 p.m., a major detour will be in effect for motorists traveling north on Interstate 65 in Sumner County near the Davidson County line. Crews are scheduled to perform a deck pour on the new I-65 bridge over US-31W. As a result, northbound I-65 will be detoured at the US-31W Exit 98 ramp. Motorists will be directed off the interstate and immediately back on using the entrance ramp. Simultaneously, US-31W (State Route 41) will be closed in both directions under the bridge. These closures are expected to last until 5:00 a.m. Friday morning.
Daytime Maintenance and Pothole Patching
For those traveling during mid-day hours, expect intermittent lane closures on several major interstates. TDOT has authorized a 'pothole blitz' to repair damage from late January storms. Impacted areas include:
- I-24: Multiple lane closures in both directions between Log Mile 0 and 16 for patching operations from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- I-65 (Williamson County): Single lane closures between Log Mile 20 and 24 near the Brentwood and Franklin area for surface repairs during the same mid-day window.
- 4th Avenue (Downtown): A single lane closure in both directions is scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for pole removal activities.
Public Transit and Long-Term Detours
WeGo Public Transit passengers should be aware that the Winter 2026 service changes are now fully in effect. This includes increased frequency on Route 3 (West End), Route 7 (Hillsboro), and Route 52 (Nolensville Pike) to help alleviate congestion. However, several active detours remain:
- Routes 3, 28, and 9: These lines are currently operating on detours near the Elizabeth Duff Transit Center due to ongoing infrastructure work.
- Route 84 (Murfreesboro) and Route 95 (Spring Hill): Significant detours remain in place for regional routes; passengers are advised to check the WeGo website for specific stop closures.
- Bradford Hills Drive: This remains under a continuous closure with a posted detour expected to last through April 2026.
Drivers are reminded to slow down and move over for maintenance crews. All scheduled work is weather-dependent and subject to change in the event of precipitation.
