Overview of Road Conditions

Following a prolonged winter weather event earlier this week, Nashville and surrounding Middle Tennessee counties continue to face hazardous travel conditions this Saturday, January 31, 2026. While the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has made progress in clearing major interstates, secondary roads and residential streets in Davidson, Williamson, and Sumner counties remain icy in many areas. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution as melting ice may refreeze into black ice during the evening hours.

Major Artery and Construction Updates

Several major construction projects and maintenance efforts are impacting travel today. TDOT crews have transitioned from snow clearing to active pothole repair across the interstate system. Commuters should expect the following impacts:

  • Nolensville Pike (SR 11): Temporary road closures continue between the Mill Creek bridge and Old Hickory Boulevard for utility relocation and grading. Expect delays through the afternoon.
  • State Route 6 (Williamson County): Northbound lane shifts remain in effect near Log Mile 12. Drivers should be prepared for sudden merging and reduced speed limits.
  • I-65 Widening (Davidson/Sumner): While major bridge work on Cedar Street has caused nightly closures, daytime motorists near Rivergate Parkway should watch for single lane closures on SR 174 (Long Hollow Pike) as bridge work continues.
  • I-24 Street Light Conversion: Maintenance crews are working on shoulder closures between mile markers 40.3 and 40.7. While all lanes are currently open, use caution when passing work crews.

Public Transport and WeGo Alerts

WeGo Public Transit is operating with several weather-related detours and service adjustments as of this morning. Passengers are encouraged to check the latest schedules before heading to their stops. Current alerts include:

  • Route 3 (West End): A detour is in effect for buses traveling from downtown on US Highway 70 at Colice Jeanne Road. Stops between Hicks Road and Sawyer Brown Road are currently bypassed.
  • Route 23 (Dickerson Pike): Service is not currently reaching the Parkwood and Chesapeake neighborhoods due to lingering ice on secondary roads; buses are terminating at Walmart.
  • Route 41 (Golden Valley): Outbound buses are detouring from West Trinity Lane to Whites Creek Pike, bypassing several regular stops.
  • Route 75 (Midtown) & Route 79 (Skyline): Both routes are operating under detour protocols to avoid steep or uncleared side streets.

Standard winter service changes that were implemented earlier this month, including expanded Sunday hours for major routes like Charlotte Pike and Murfreesboro Pike, remain in effect, though weather-related delays may occur across the entire system today.
