Overnight Alert: Full Closure of I-65 South at Exit 98

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced a significant overnight closure for I-65 Southbound that will impact commuters traveling late tonight. Starting at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, all southbound lanes of I-65 at Exit 98 (Millersville/Goodlettsville) will be closed to allow crews to perform a bridge deck pour. This closure is part of the ongoing Phase 3 Widening and Improvements project in Sumner County. Traffic will be diverted off the interstate at the Exit 98 ramp and immediately back on via the entrance ramp. The roadway is expected to reopen by 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Daytime Lane Closures and Construction Zones

Daytime commuters should also prepare for several localized slowdowns across the Midstate due to scheduled maintenance and widening projects:

  • I-65 / Long Hollow Pike: Near Rivergate Parkway, single-lane closures are expected on SR 174 (Long Hollow Pike) in both directions from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for bridge work related to the I-65 expansion.
  • Sam Ridley Parkway (SR 266): In Rutherford County, temporary lane closures will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Sam Ridley Parkway and Old Nashville Highway. Crews are installing turn lanes and updated signal equipment.
  • I-24 Streetlight Conversion: Watch for nightly single-lane closures between mile markers 87.6 and 88.2 as crews continue work on the regional streetlight retrofit project.

WeGo Public Transit Detours

Public transit riders should check their routes before heading to their stops, as several detours remain in effect for WeGo bus services today. Route 6 (Lebanon Pike) is currently detoured near Donelson Station due to construction, with certain stops between Lebanon Pike and Graylynn Drive temporarily out of service. Additionally, Route 3 (West End) and Route 86 (Smyrna-La Vergne) are experiencing detours for buses heading from downtown, utilizing James Robertson Parkway and Rosa Parks Boulevard to bypass active work zones.

Safety Warning: High-Incident Interchanges

Following a recent data analysis of Nashville’s deadliest stretches, commuters are urged to exercise extreme caution at three specific interchanges: I-65 at Rosa L. Parks Boulevard, I-24 at Old Hickory Boulevard in Antioch, and the complex I-40/I-24/I-440 merge near Spence Lane. These areas have been identified as high-risk zones for crashes during peak merging hours. TDOT reminds all drivers to slow down in work zones and adhere to the Move Over Law to protect roadside crews.
