Winter Storm Warning and Emergency Status

Nashville is currently under a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service, effective until 6:00 PM CST today, Sunday, January 25, 2026. Following the State of Emergency issued by Governor Bill Lee, road conditions across Davidson County are considered extremely dangerous. Heavy mixed precipitation and significant ice accumulation of up to half an inch have made travel nearly impossible on many secondary roads. Local authorities and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) are urging residents to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely essential to allow salt trucks and emergency crews space to operate.

Major Road Closures and Ongoing Construction

While weather remains the primary concern, several long-term infrastructure projects continue to impact traffic flow. Commuters should be aware of the following specific closures and alerts:

  • State Route 24 (Lebanon Pike/Charlotte Ave): Eastbound lanes in Davidson County remain closed for ongoing maintenance between Log Mile 12 and 12. This closure is scheduled to persist through February 28, 2026.
  • Interstate 40: Bridge repair work is active near Mile Marker 193.8. While no lanes are currently blocked by the work itself, the area remains a high-risk zone for icing.
  • Interstate 65: The widening project near Mile Marker 96 is ongoing. Additionally, Phase 3 of the widening from Rivergate Parkway to State Route 41 is under construction, which may cause narrowed shoulders and shifted lanes that are particularly hazardous in icy conditions.
  • Nolensville Pike (SR 11): Continuous sidewalk and signal improvements are underway as part of the transit modernization plan. Drivers should expect localized delays once roads are cleared.

WeGo Public Transit Alerts

WeGo Public Transit has moved to emergency snow route protocols. For today, Sunday, January 25, service is limited only to major corridors. The Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central is currently closed to the public. Only the following routes are operational with significant detours:

  • Route 3 (West End)
  • Route 4S (Shelby)
  • Route 7 (Hillsboro)
  • Route 8 (8th Avenue South)
  • Routes 22 (Bordeaux), 23 (Dickerson Pike), and 50 (Charlotte Pike)
  • Routes 52 (Nolensville Pike), 55 (Murfreesboro Pike), and 56 (Gallatin Pike)

Aviation and General Safety

Nashville International Airport (BNA) is reporting major disruptions, with hundreds of flights canceled or delayed due to the regional arctic blast. Travelers are advised to check their flight status before attempting the drive to the airport. TDOT reminds those who must drive to watch for 'black ice' on bridges and overpasses, which freeze much faster than standard surface streets. If you encounter a salt truck or plow, maintain a following distance of at least 200 feet.
