The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced significant, continuous closures on I-40 that are expected to cause heavy congestion throughout the day and into the weekend. Additionally, mid-day spot repairs on I-24 in Rutherford and Davidson counties will tighten lane availability during typical off-peak hours.

Major Arteries: I-40 and I-24 Construction

• I-40 Bridge Repairs: Starting today, February 19, a continuous work zone is being established on I-40 at mile marker 221. This project involves multiple westbound lane closures and a single eastbound right lane closure. Most critically for local commuters, the Exit 221A ramp is fully closed for bridge repair. These closures will remain in effect through February 21.
• I-24 Spot Repairs: Between mile markers 63 and 68, crews are performing spot repairs to address pavement damage. Expect intermittent lane closures in the eastbound lanes from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and in the westbound lanes from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. While at least two lanes will remain open, the reduction in capacity during the afternoon rush will likely cause backups.
