City Notice Roundup: Winter Weather Emergencies and Service Updates

Winter Weather Emergency: Shelter and Warming Center Extensions
Due to the ongoing impacts of the January 2026 winter storm, the Nashville Office of Homeless Services (OHS) has announced that the Metro Overflow Shelter will remain open for 24-hour operations through Wednesday, January 28. Emergency overflow facilities are currently housing over 400 individuals, providing hot meals and medical triage. Residents in need of relief from the sub-freezing temperatures are encouraged to utilize warming locations available at all Nashville Fire Stations and most Metro Police Precincts. Please note that the Central and East Precincts are not available as warming sites. For those requiring transportation to a warming center, the city has established a dedicated request line at 615-401-1712.
School and Government Office Closures
Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) will remain closed on Wednesday, January 28, and Thursday, January 29, following the severe ice and snow accumulation across the district. While many non-essential Metro offices are operating remotely or remain closed, the Davidson County Clerk’s Main Office will open on a modified schedule from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. today. All other branch offices remain closed. Residents are advised to call ahead before visiting any Metro agency to confirm operational status as staffing remains limited by road conditions.
Public Service Disruptions: Waste and Transit
The Nashville Department of Waste Services has officially suspended all residential curbside collection for Wednesday, January 28. Neighborhood routes remain obstructed by ice and fallen tree debris. To assist residents with accumulated waste, all Metro Nashville Convenience Centers are waiving fees through the end of the week. WeGo Public Transit is expected to resume regular weekday operations today; however, riders should expect significant delays. The Star shuttles will operate on a normal schedule, but all other regional bus services have been cancelled for the day. Notably, the Journey Pass registration event scheduled for today at the East Park Community Center has been cancelled.
Community Safety and Public Health
Despite the weather-related closures, the Community Safety Task Force Meeting is still scheduled to take place today, Wednesday, January 28, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the East Park Regional Community Center. Health officials also remind the public that we remain in the peak of the respiratory infection season. With many residents gathered in warming centers or shelters, the Metro Public Health Department urges the use of preventative measures to limit the spread of illness.
Property Tax and Financial Notices
The Metro Trustee’s Office reminds property owners that 2025 property taxes must be paid in full by the last day of February 2026 to avoid interest charges. Additionally, the application window for the Property Tax Freeze and Tax Relief programs remains open through April 5, 2026. Qualifying homeowners aged 65 and older or disabled veterans are encouraged to submit their vouchers as soon as possible to ensure enrollment for the current cycle.
