City Notice Roundup: Storm Recovery Updates and Weekend Traffic Advisories

Official State of Emergency and Storm Recovery

Mayor Freddie O’Connell has issued an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency for Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County following the impacts of Winter Storm Fern. Residents are advised that the city is currently in a high-intensity recovery phase. The Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) has deployed between four and eight specialized crews to address emergency pothole repairs resulting from recent freeze-thaw cycles. Citizens are encouraged to report road hazards or potholes via the hubNashville app, online at hub.nashville.gov, or by calling 311.

Residential storm vegetation debris collection is now active across the county. Crews are conducting a secondary assessment of the hardest-hit areas to coordinate multiple collection rounds. Residents should place organic debris at the curb, ensuring it does not obstruct sidewalks or drainage systems. Recovery efforts are also being supported by the newly formed Winter Storm Response Commission, which will investigate infrastructure preparedness for future events.

Major Road Closures and Traffic Advisories

Significant traffic disruptions are expected through the weekend due to both emergency repairs and pre-scheduled infrastructure projects:

  • I-40 Bridge Repair: Multiple westbound lane closures and a single eastbound lane closure are in effect on I-40 near Exit 221A (Old Hickory Boulevard). The ramp at Exit 221A is fully closed. These restrictions will remain in place until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23.
  • I-40 Event Closure: On Saturday, February 21, from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., I-40 EB at Exit 209A and I-40 WB at Exit 209 will experience temporary closures for a sanctioned city event.
  • Long-term Projects: Bradford Hills Drive remains under a continuous closure through April 2026 for Nolensville Pike improvements. Additionally, intermittent partial closures of the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge are scheduled to begin Monday, February 23, for essential maintenance.

Public Health Advisory: Seasonal Respiratory Activity

The Metro Public Health Department reports elevated levels of Influenza A and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) across Middle Tennessee. Health officials recommend diagnostic testing for those experiencing sudden onset of fever, cough, or body aches, as symptoms for these viruses often overlap with COVID-19. Residents are urged to utilize local clinics for vaccinations and to practice respiratory hygiene in public spaces to limit community spread.

Community Service and Public Meetings

Public participation is requested for the following city initiatives on Saturday, February 21:

  • Fort Negley Volunteer Program: The Visitors Center is hosting a fossil volunteer session from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Adopt-A-Street Cleanup: A community cleanup of Albion Street is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., departing from the Hadley Park Regional Community Center.
