City Notice: New Waste Schedule and Winter Storm Recovery Updates

Official Notice: Residential Waste and Recycling Schedule Changes
The Nashville Department of Waste Services (NWS) officially transitioned to a new residential trash and recycling collection schedule beginning the week of February 2, 2026. As of today, Friday, February 13, all residents should be following their newly assigned collection days. This major operational upgrade is the first optimization of city collection routes in over a decade, utilizing state-of-the-art onboard technology to improve efficiency across Davidson County.
- Residents are reminded that while trash continues to be collected weekly, recycling remains on an every-other-week basis.
- If a collection day falls on a Metro holiday, the pickup will move to the Monday of that week.
- Emergency trash drop-off sites that were opened during the recent storm recovery remain under evaluation; however, the standard curbside service has fully resumed under the new four-day routing system.
Mayor’s 'Restore Nashville' Campaign: Storm Recovery Relief
Following the significant winter weather event in late January, Mayor Freddie O’Connell has launched the 'Restore Nashville' campaign to provide financial relief to impacted residents. Active for the month of February 2026, several city departments have implemented the following measures:
- Water Bill Relief: Metro Water Services has introduced legislation to suspend all late fees and turn-off penalties for the month of February. Residents who suffered leaks or burst pipes due to freezing temperatures are encouraged to contact the department for potential billing adjustments.
- Permit Fee Waivers: Metro Codes is currently waiving permit fees for any property repairs directly necessitated by storm damage.
- Property Tax Reassessments: Plans are underway to reassess the value of homes severely impacted by the storm to provide long-term tax relief for affected homeowners.
Upcoming Roadwork and Traffic Advisories
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) have issued alerts for several infrastructure projects active or beginning shortly:
- Interstate 24: Beginning Monday, February 16, spot repairs will occur on I-24 from mile markers 63 to 68 (near the Rutherford-Davidson line). Expect intermittent lane closures between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. through Friday.
- Briley Parkway: Nightly single lane closures are scheduled between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. for ongoing streetlight conversion projects.
- Nolensville Pike: Widening projects and utility relocations continue near Mill Creek, which may result in temporary flagging operations and lane shifts.
Holiday Service Notice: President's Day
