Public Service Announcement: Winter Storm Fern Recovery and Relief
In response to the historic impact of Winter Storm Fern, Metro Nashville has announced several critical measures to assist residents affected by widespread power outages and property damage. Mayor Freddie O'Connell has formally appointed a commission, chaired by former Governor Phil Bredesen, to investigate the response of the Nashville Electric Service (NES). While the commission’s first formal hearing is scheduled for February 23, several immediate relief efforts are now active:
- Property Tax Proration: An ordinance has been approved allowing the Metro Assessor of Property to prorate 2026 assessments for buildings significantly damaged during the ice storm.
- Utility Bill Credits: The Metropolitan Council has passed initial legislation to provide one-time bill credits for water and sewer users who experienced service disruptions or infrastructure failures during the event.
- Federal Aid Request: A resolution has been forwarded to federal authorities urging the approval of FEMA individual assistance for Davidson County residents.
Notice of Meeting: Metropolitan Board of Equalization
The Metropolitan Board of Equalization will hold a regularly scheduled meeting today, February 19, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. The board will review property assessment appeals and ensure the equitable distribution of the tax burden across the county. These meetings are open to the public as part of Metro’s commitment to transparency in property valuation.
