Boston turns a familiar late-game pattern into two points; Nashville earns one after erasing a 2-0 deficit

The Nashville Predators’ pushback forced overtime Tuesday night in Boston, but the Bruins ended the game almost immediately. David Pastrnak redirected a feed at the crease 15 seconds into overtime to lift Boston past Nashville, 3-2, at TD Garden on Jan. 27, 2026.

The result followed a script that has recently tested Boston’s closing ability: the Bruins carried a multi-goal lead into the later stages, conceded a tying goal, and still found a way to secure the extra point. This time, the finish was decisive. Off the opening faceoff of overtime, Boston entered the zone quickly and Pastrnak converted in front for the winner.

Boston built a 2-0 advantage on goals from defenseman Hampus Lindholm and forward Morgan Geekie. Lindholm opened the scoring at 13:16 of the first period, and Geekie doubled the lead at 2:48 of the second for his 30th goal of the season. The Bruins received 28 saves from Jeremy Swayman, while Nashville goaltender Juuse Saros stopped 25 shots.

Nashville’s comeback began late in the second period on a power play. Roman Josi cut the deficit to 2-1 with 35 seconds remaining in the frame, setting up a third period in which the Predators gradually tilted the ice. The tying goal came at 13:17 of the third, when Nick Blankenburg’s point shot found its way through traffic to make it 2-2.

Pastrnak finished with a goal and an assist and extended his point streak to eight games.

For Nashville, the third-period equalizer underscored a recurring theme of the matchup: the Predators generated enough pressure to force mistakes and earned a road point by staying connected defensively after falling behind. Yet overtime lasted only one shift, a costly outcome in a tight standings race where regulation wins and clean finishes often determine separation.

  • Final: Bruins 3, Predators 2 (OT)
  • Scoring for Boston: Hampus Lindholm, Morgan Geekie, David Pastrnak (OT winner)
  • Scoring for Nashville: Roman Josi (PPG), Nick Blankenburg
  • Goaltending: Jeremy Swayman 28 saves; Juuse Saros 25 saves

The game also brought a personnel concern for Boston: forward Elias Lindholm left late in the second period with an upper-body injury and did not return. The Bruins were also without the security of a comfortable finish after Nashville’s late surge, but they controlled the single most important moment—overtime’s opening possession—and converted it into two points.
